Keurig's "K cups too bold/strong for my taste"

by Amy
(Berea, KY)

I asked for a Keurig mini brewer for Christmas and the machine works well. However I'm really disappointed with it because of how strong all of the coffee tastes, regardless of the brand or blend/flavor.

The problem is that I do not lIke strong coffee. For example, I think Starbucks coffee is too bold regardless of the type. I guess I'm not a purist, but even the K-cups that are flavored taste so strong I can barely drink them.

Perhaps it is because the largest cup size you can use with the mini is a 10-oz cup. Because some Keurig owners must be like me, I wonder if anything can be done to make the brew milder short of diluting the brewed cup.

My sister-in-law told me she had one at work and they used to brew two separate cups using the same k cup so that the second cup would be milder. I made her some coffe with my new Keurig and she didn't finish it (and she said she liked bold coffee).

For those of you who like a robust blend, please understand that I admit I'm a whimp when it comes to coffee, but I just want to know if there are those out there like me who have found K cups to be too bold, and if so, how did you deal with it? I'm a bit surprised that I haven't seen a similar comment out there in cyberspace, so I'm wondering if perhaps I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions are appreciated.

makes coffee too strong NEW
by: Anonymous

This coffee is much too strong. The K cups should be filled as to the strength of coffee you like, such as strong, medium, light. Every one I have tried has been extremely strong.

I too was disappointed after drinking my first cup of coffee from my keurig. I have tried several types and still nothing has worked. Finally I bought a washable filter and I am now putting my own amount of coffee in and it's working much better.

I have the regular size Keurig and I have not found a coffee that is not too strong. Even the breakfast blend or the vanilla biscotti are still too strong. Please help me!

Way too strong! NEW

I am a college student, and I saved up money over the summer to purchase a keurig for my roommates and myself. But I just cannot bring myself to drink it. We have tried adding hot water, using the k-cups twice and nothing works..

coffee way to strong NEW
by: Anonymous

I am so glad I'm not the only one that thinks the coffee is to strong. I just can't drink it at all. I paid 180.00 for a machine that makes crap coffee. I love the machine, but not the coffee. I sure hope they take notice at how many people are complaining about it. Its not convenient to keep trying to get it "come out right". They just need to make some with half the coffee in it. :(

Way too strong! NEW

For Christmas (2012) we bought our parents and ourselves a Keurig and couldn't wait to try it out! My husband and I and our parents just cannot handle to super strong coffee that it produces. Other people agree and have gone to long lengths to weaken the coffee to thier taste preference...but this defeats the purpose of the one-cup Keurig convenience. Does this company not have a Research and Development department? Do they have one or two people assigned to tasting these coffee's? While everyone has different taste pallets, likewise, so should the company provide coffee's accordingly to accommodate both strong, medium and weak taste preferences. Such a shame....both Keurig's will definitely be returned.

Strong, tastes bitter but worked it out NEW
by: WeakCoffee

I agree with all. It's not strong its bitter. I grind my own beans and make it in the metal brewer. I fill mine full of coffee and still it is not bitter made that way. It's sad that you cannot use a K cup when you have guests over without it tasting to strong.

TRY THIS FOR TOO STRONG COFFEE NEW
by: V-dear

I just got a keurig mini B31 maker..I too was so excited about getting it only to find that all the k cups were way too strong..I am experimenting with mine-I dont give up until I get something right!-I saved a used K cup from the day before-make sure it is washed out and dried..then I opened a new k cup and scooped out half of the coffee from it and put it in the k cup from the day before- then I covered the top of the k cup with glad press and seal wrap(it sticks itself to things when you press on it)you can get it at walmart or any grocery store in the saran wrap/foil aisle..I put TWO layers of press and seal on the top of the k cup..I pressed brew and was crossing my fingers i wouldnt have a huge mess- and it worked!..the coffee was half as strong (the way i like it) and i now will get 2 cups of coffee out of the coffee in 1 k cup. Here is something to consider..if you drink 2 cups of coffee per day then just run your k cup the way it is out of the box through the brewer once..then run it again with just water and mix the coffee with the water and you will have enough for 2 cups of lighter coffee for that day..but if you want just 1 cup of coffee per day then do my suggestion above and get twice the amount of cups from your k cups and it wont be too strong! hope this helps SOMEONE!

totally agree
by: r3drobin

i just got my mini keurig the other day and have brewed in it twice...ive also had to dump half of it out and dilute it with water becuz its so strong! what a pain and what a waste. im thinking about returning it...very disappointing :(
i dont see the point in keeping a $100 coffee maker if i have to buy a special filter and figure out my own coffee serving. wasnt that the point in buying this thing...ease and convenience?

Strong or weaker coffee
by: Anonymous

You can buy a keurig filter, remove the original and replace it, and use any type or amount of coffee you want. I just bought mine at Walmart last week and love it. cattle

Too Much Coffee in K-cup
by: boggle

I tried a couple of the blends that I thought would be the least strong...was I wrong...way too strong. I opened a K-cup and measured the amount. It was roughly equivalent to the amount of coffee I would use for a 1/2 pot in my 12 cup Krups Drip Coffee Maker! There is at least twice as much coffee in the K-cup than is necessary.

reusable filter?
by: nikkilynee

I found a brand of reusable filter called Solo Cups that is suppose to fit in my brand of keurig I had to do some research and found that Keurig only makes one size of reusable filter(which does not fit in my model or course!) I don't like my coffee that strong either (its really nasty and makes my insides shake) so I am thinking about buying this filter and using my plain old folders cut in half of the recommended amount I am hoping it will be the way I like it.

I also feel this coffee is way to strong for my taste and am glad I now know I'm not the only one.

Yes, I agree...the coffee's way too strong
by: Christina

My husband received the mini-brewer for Christmas yesterday because he wanted the option of brewing fresh, flavored coffee whenever he wants. We are very disappointed and unable to drink the coffee....way too strong for us.

We'll be returning it. Too bad. :(

You're not alone! I just got the Mini too and was feeling very spoiled but the coffee is so strong I'm not enjoying it at all. Maybe I'll start liking strong coffee but I really don't like it to taste like coffee grounds. ugh!

Coffee is way to strong
by: Tammy

I just bought a 80 count box of Folgers K Cups and they are so strong I can't drink them. I have tried making a second cup, but still...... dear God in heaven, is there anyway to dilute these so I can drink my coffee and not throw the 45.00 I just spend out the window?????

Mar 30, 2011
absolutely right
by: Anonymous

I have the special edition and the large size cup is wayyyyy too strong and I like medium coffee. I finally got the right amount figured out with the attachment for my own coffee...what a shame though...not very convienent.

Also..I've had the coffee maker for 3 months and now it won't brew a full cup all the time...just never sure when it will or wont.

Coffee too strong
by: Anonymous

I am the same way - I like "weak" coffee. I use the "My K-Cup" and fill about 2/4 full of the regular coffee I use and set it for the largest cup. Comes out just like I prefer it and saves $$ too. I also have the mini which I fill about half full and use the 10 Oz.

K-Cups too strong
by: Jenn

I agree completely! What I've been doing is using my 20oz travel mug to brew into, and brew 2 cycles into the same cup. A bit of a pain in the but. I'm hoping they come out with a less robust blend of coffee for 'wimps' like us!

want coffee thats not strong
by: Anonymous

If you want weak coffee get Dunkin Donuts Coffee and use your own cup in the Keurig.
